1. Find the data jack

Look for the data jack on the wall in your unit. It looks like a large phone jack and is usually located in the living room or bedroom.

You may need to test more than one jack

If your unit has multiple jacks, only one may be activated for service. Start with the most convenient jack and try the others if your router does not connect.

2. Connect your router

Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the wall jack. Plug the other end into the router port labeled WAN or INTERNET.

Don't have a router? Visit the Google Fiber Help Center for guidance on choosing a router and connecting other Ethernet devices.

3. Look for signs of internet life

Shortly after connecting the cable, check your router's internet indicator light or status screen. Router indicators vary by model, so refer to your router's manual if you are unsure what to look for.

Internet connection: success

If your router shows a successful connection, follow its manual to finish setup and connect your devices over Wi-Fi. Then continue to step 4.

No internet connection?

Confirm that the router is powered on and that the Ethernet cable is firmly connected to both the wall jack and the router's WAN or INTERNET port.

If the connection still fails

  1. Look for another data jack in your unit.
  2. Move the Ethernet cable to that jack.
  3. Wait briefly and check your router's internet indicator again.
  4. Repeat until the router shows a successful connection.

4. Check your connection and set up your account

Once your router is online and your devices can connect, complete your Google Fiber Webpass account setup.

Still not connected?
